Inpatient Services

For Adults

Salt Lake Behavioral Health offers inpatient treatment for adults who need structure and support to overcome depression, anxiety, mood swings, family conflicts or reactions to stress and trauma. We can help individuals improve dysfunctional thinking, behaviors and emotional responses through the use of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Dialectical Behavior Therapy.

Treatment includes:

  • Crisis stabilization
  • Medication management
  • Group therapy
  • Relapse prevention techniques
  • Recreational and pet therapy
  • Yoga

For Older Adults

Our Generations Unit for seniors provides psychiatric treatment for those who are experiencing severe emotional and behavioral difficulties. Significant changes in one’s life due to loss of a loved one or loss of independence may cause emotional distress, and coping with these changes may cause emotional or behavioral difficulties severe enough to interfere with daily living.

Signs and symptoms:

  • Depressed mood or extreme feelings of sadness and grief
  • Thoughts of suicide, suicide attempts or self-harm
  • Isolating and withdrawing from life
  • Hearing voices or visual hallucinations
  • Decline in general health and physical fitness
  • Increased irritability, anger and agitation
  • Fear of losing independence
  • Anxiety and panic attacks
  • Insomnia or excessive sleeping
  • Significant weight loss or gain
  • Cognitive impairments
  • Drug or alcohol abuse

Senior mental health problems are frequently misdiagnosed as cognitive impairments, organic disorders or a physical health problem. Proper psychiatric diagnosis and treatment are critical in restoring one’s emotional health and physical wellbeing.

The compassionate staff at Salt Lake Behavioral Health includes psychiatrists, physicians, therapists, nurses and recreation therapists who will treat your loved one with dignity and respect.

The program includes:

  • Cognitive Behavioral Therapy
  • Validation therapy
  • Reminiscence therapy
  • Medication management

Addiction Treatment

Salt Lake’s Courage to Change, Addiction Medicine Program provides detox and dual-diagnosis services to adults, 18 and older, struggling with chemical dependency or co-occurring issues.

We can help individuals stabilize from addiction, learn strategies for recovery and connect to a long-term recovery community.

We use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy in conjunction with Acceptance and Commitment Therapy to help individuals break the substance use cycle.

Features include pet therapy, recreational therapy and access to a spiritual care counselor.

Skills groups include:

  • The 12-step model
  • Relapse prevention
  • Thinking errors
  • Distress tolerance
  • Relaxation techniques

We also provide inpatient treatment to active duty service members and veterans through our Strong-Hope Military Program.
